Jeffrey R. Groendal
Jeff Groendal is an associate in the firm's Newport Beach office. Mr. Groendal maintains a broad business practice, with both transactional and litigation experience in environmental law, employment law, contracts, commercial transactions, bankruptcy, insurance, financing, mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, and corporate formation.Over the years, Mr. Groendal has had a number of valuable experiences in law and business. Prior to joining the firm, he provided legal advice and counsel to an alternative energy company. Before law school, Mr. Groendal worked for two years as a litigation paralegal at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP in Orange County and Los Angeles. At Gibson Dunn, he worked in the environmental litigation department, serving as lead paralegal in the Orange County office on one of the firm's largest cases. He attended over 50 days of depositions and received valuable legal training from his day-to-day interaction with partners and associates.
In 2002, Mr. Groendal graduated magna cum laude from the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California, with an emphasis in finance and business communication. Thereafter, in 2007, he earned a Juris Doctorate from Pepperdine University School of Law. While at Pepperdine, Mr. Groendal worked for the Journal of the National Association of Administrative Law Judges. In 2007, he was selected to publish an article in that journal, entitled Turning Back the Clock: The California Supreme Court's Decision in McClung v. Employment Education Department and the Difficulty of Determining Legislative Intent in Retroactive Rulemaking, 26 J. Nat'l Ass'n Admin. L. Judges 597 (2007). Mr. Groendal also helped establish the Journal of Business, Entrepreneurship & the Law and he served as Lead Articles Editor for that publication. Also during law school, in the summer of 2005, Mr. Groendal attended the Pepperdine International Program in London.
From January to May 2006, Mr. Groendal served as a full-time judicial extern to the Honorable Terry J. Hatter, Jr. of the United States District Court in the Central District of California.
Mr. Groendal is admitted to practice law in California and Oregon. He is a member of the American Bar Association and serves on the Barristers Board of Governors of the Beverly Hills Bar Association.
